Mediation
Approach:

 		 I am primarily facilitative, but I have no problem playing the devil's advocate regarding various litigation postures. I utilize more joint sessions in mediations than I used to during settlement conferences as a judge.
Arbitration
Approach:

 		 I view arbitrations as private court trial. The sessions and certain procedures are more relaxed. I feel the parties want legal determinations based upon the evidence rater than compromises.

 During the past three years I have mediated numerous cases in various flields of law. I have thoroughly enjoyed this process. Contrasted with trial, mediations give parties an apportunity to work out solutions rather than determining who is right. Many times these agreements go beyond what is allowable in trial.
I understand and respect the drive and motivation of a litigator. For eleven years, I served as a prosecutor in Contra Costa County. I also appreciate the strenghts and short comings of the legal process. For over twenty years I was a Judge of the Superior Court including three separate terms serving in Contra Costa's "Fast Track" program.
In the right setting advocates, parties, and mediators should be able to come together, understand and respect each other's position and resolve the dispute in a way that is more direct, less clostly for the clients, and in the final analysis, a better solution than the litigation process. This is my overriding goal as a mediator. Let's reason together and truly serve our clients.
