Mediation
Experience:

I am a fifteen-year labor and employment law attorney, and maintain a private mediation practice focusing on employment and other work place disputes, business, guardianship, and divorce/custody/family disputes. I belong to several court mediation panels, including San Francisco, San Mateo, and Contra Costa Superior Court. I regularly mediate personal injury/premises liability claims for a large corporation, and have handled large, multi-party real estate disputes involving homeowners associations and home owners. I have trained mediators through the Northern California Center for Mediation, the University of California Berkeley Boalt Hall School of Law, and the University of California Hastings College of the Law. I am Chair of the Northern California Chapter of the national organization Mediators Beyond Borders. I particularly welcome the opportunity to mediate high-conflict, high-emotion cases.

Other
Education:

University of Michigan Law School, Juris Doctorate, December 1992; University of Michigan, B.A. in English and Russian with Highest Honors, 1988.
Mediation
Approach:

In my experience, mediation is an opportunity for the people involved in the conflict to communicate their interests and problem-solve toward a resolution that meets their goals. I work to facilitate communication, mutual and engaged problem-solving, and a settlement that may offer both parties more satisfaction than a judgment. I use the mediation techniques that are most effective for each case, consistent with the goals of the parties. If the parties prefer evaluative feedback, I am comfortable providing that.
Other
Information:

My particular expertise is in high-emotion cases, often involving work place disputes or families trying to resolve long-standing issues related to a particular dispute. Parties have complimented my ability to handle emotion effectively during the mediation process, leading to a meaningful resolution and sometimes even an improved relationship between the parties.
