Mediation Experience:	20 years, over 1200 mediations.
Mediation Training:	Second and Third district Courts of Appeal (Appellate Mediation. Richard Birke and Dana Curtis, 2004) and 60 hours training at Pepperdine University School of Law. Strauss Institute for Dispute Resolution (Mediating the Litigated Case, 42 hours, 2004 and Specialized Mediation: Handling Challenging Employment, Medical Malpractice and PI Cases, 18 hours, 2004).
Arbitration Experience:	American Arbitration Association (AAA) commercial and employment panelist since 2007, Kaiser Permanente Medical Malpractice Panelist for the Office of the Independent Administrator since 2010. Handled in excess of 100 medical malpractice arbitrations and 100 AAA arbitrations.
Neutral Evaluation Background:	Minimal ENE experience. Less than 10 handled.
Settlement Conference Experience:	I am currently on the Santa Clara County panel and have handled in excess of 100 MSC’s under the Rule 4 program.

Mediation Approach:	Primarily facilitative, but sometimes more directive, depending on the parties and counsel involved, and the nature of the dispute.
Arbitration Approach:	I conduct my arbitration hearing in a casual environment with somewhat relaxed rules of evidence, allowing the parties to present their case and defenses and I issue reasoned awards.
Neutral Approach:	Settlement conference format with a written statement of my analysis of the case following the hearing.
Other Information:	I am one of the few mediators/arbitrators who still maintains a law practice. My rationale is that it keeps me grounded with what is going on in the courts and with the ever-changing practice of law.
Brief Thumbnail:	I am a trial lawyer who has practiced defense (80%) and plaintiff (20%) litigation since 1975, primarily in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. I currently have a mediation (70%), Arbitration (20%) and law practice (10%), with offices in Redwood City and Woodland Hills.
